Sprint Canada unveils wireless bundle priceSprint Canada Inc. has priced its soon-to-be-launched local residential wireless-wireline bundle at $44.95/month, the company announced in an August 31 news release. Earlier this summer, the company said that it was working with struggling wireless operator Microcell Telecommunications Inc. to offer a wireless-wireline local residential service bundle (RoW, July 9/03). Sprint Canada was looking for a way to bolster its local residential service offering, while Microcell was searching for greater marketing muscle without the added expense. While carriers don’t yet appear to know how they can make money from this service, the agreement demonstrates that they aren’t going to let any potential revenue slip through their fingers. What’s missing from the carriers’ announcement, however, is a commitment to work with independent Wi-Fi operators to make sure they are included in this new "framework." Canadians see how eagerly Americans have flocked to their version of the roster and want to see it duplicated. Many probably do not even know that the proposals put forth by the Canadian Marketing Association (CMA) are much tougher and consumer-friendly than those of the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) in the U.S.   The CRTC proceeding into telemarketing has been going on for more than two years now. The matter appears to be bogged down in questions of funding and of jurisdiction.
