Executive personnel shakeup hits CTV

Kevin Crull, the new chief operating officer of CTVglobemedia Inc., announced staff changes at CTV Tuesday in an internal memo to staff. Five high-profile members of the broadcaster’s management team are leaving, including creative content head Susanne Boyce. Alon Marcovici, the executive vice-president of digital media, is also leaving. “Alon Marcovici led the game-changing development and distribution of programming throughout various mobile, online, and over-the-top initiatives for the Broadcast Consortium at Vancouver 2010,” Crull said in the note. “The unprecedented access and customization sparked 28.5 million video views by 12.3 million unique visitors on CTVOlympics.ca and RDSolympiques.ca.” Chief financial officer John Gossling, executive vice-president of corporate affairs Paul Sparkes, and executive vice-president of human resources and operations Dawn Fell are also departing. Crull also announced the creation of a “programming council,” which will be headed by Joanna Webb and Mike Cosentino. Tracey Pearce, Pat DiVittorio, and Brian McCluskey will be partners on the council. “It’s my belief that a core strategic imperative is to view programming assets as interchangeable tools to drive all our businesses-conventional, specialty, digital, and radio,” Crull said. “Due to persistent trends where viewers are leaving conventional and profits are concentrated in specialty, we really need to think holistically. Creation and selection of hit programming will continue to be the overriding focus of this executive team, and will therefore receive tremendous attention.” This shuffle was seen as the first major move Crull has made in his new position at CTV. CTVglobemedia president and CEO Ivan Fecan announced last summer that he will be leaving the company following the close of BCE Inc.’s deal to buy CTV. The CRTC held hearings on the acquisition last week.
